Ski Calgary Early

Calgary’s closest mountain, Nakiska Ski Area, made skiing history when it became the first ski area in Canada to open and the first ski area to open in October.

The resort area is located in the Province of Alberta and is situated about 83 kilometres west of Calgary. It is set on the face of Mt Allan and has 64 ski trails and four chairlifts.

The resort is only open on weekends until December, when Nakiska opens every day. Initially, skiing and riding will be off the Gold Express Chair on 3 ski runs: Upper Mapmaker, Middle Mapmaker and Big Bear.

Skiers and riders will upload and download on the Olympic Express Chair. Because the runs are opening prior to the regular season, early season conditions exist and it is recommended that only intermediate and advanced skiers try out the various runs.

In order to attract customers, there is an early bonus for all RCR Passholders. Their RCR (Resorts of the Canadian Rockies) Season Passes will be welcome at Nakiska Ski Area. They will entitle their holders to ski a number of areas, including Nakiska, Fernie and Kimberley. The passes that will be accepted include RCR Rockies Midweek Passes, Fernie Alpine Resort Full Week Season Passes and Kimberley Alpine Resort Full Week Season Passes.

With recent significant enhancements in snowmaking, additional ski runs and the new Gold Express Chair, Nakiska has become the family favourite for Calgary’s skiers and riders.
