Lots of Comfort at Little Sossus Namibia

You can tell that the travel industry is expanding when you can find luxury accommodation at little known places in countries that are also well off the popular tourist routes.

Namibia is a country on the Atlantic Coast of Southern Africa. The country’s name is a derivative of the Namib Desert, which is said to be the world’s oldest desert. The names of some of the regions in Namibia could give you an idea of why the country is considered well off the tourist highway, with places called the Skeleton Coast, the Namib Desert and the Kalahari Desert the country doesn’t sound like it could offer the casual traveller much in the way of interest or comfort, but if you assume that is the case, you are just plain wrong.

On the contrary, Namibia is the perfect place in which to discover just how remarkable our world really is.

Part of the Namib Desert is called Sossusvlei and is an area known for its spectacular sand dunes, which form part of the Namib Naukluft Park.

Situated just 30 kilometres from Sossusvlei is a gem of a place to stay called the Little Sossus Lodge.

The Lodge is comprised of 20 luxurious chalets that have been built using local materials to better fit into the landscape. They sit on the Namib Plain and each chalet allows you a magnificent view of the both the Plain and the mountains in the near distance.

Daily activities involve going out in 4-wheel drive vehicles with accredited and experienced guides to explore the Namib Plain, with the most popular time to go is near sunset, when you drive up a trail to the top of a nearby mountain and enjoy a splendid sunset with its vivid red, yellows and oranges as you sip on a wine and enjoy a light snack.

Afterwards, back at the Lodge, enjoy a good wine and a delicious dinner. For that true Namibian experience you can also enjoy a barbecue Noma dinner as you savour local specialities.

For those who require much pampering after a day in the desert, the Little Sossus Lodge also has its own spa, which overlooks the mountains, so that not only your body but your eye is also spoilt for pleasure.

For those looking for something a little closer to nature, Little Sossus also has its own campsite, where you can park your camper or set up your tent under a roofed area, which contains its own ensuite, complete with hot water.

Little Sossus Lodge may be a little out of the way, but you’ll think you’re in heaven when you get there.
