Hi Grumpy,

Thanks for the kind words about the San Juan Islands, just wanted to alert you to a new development: the waters surrounding the San Juan Islands are now referred to as the Salish Sea. The waters lower down near Seattle are still referred to as Puget Sound.

Thanks for not being grumpy about us!

I can confirm your story about the vault in Broken Hill. My grandfather, William Pike a carpenter and builder, was spirited away from Sydney to help construct the vault. The family did not know of his whereabouts or what he was up to other than that he was on government business. It wasn't until after the war that he told his story

Looks like a beautiful place to visit. Reminds me of our very own Marafa depression in Kenya, near Malindi, also known as Hell's Kitchen. You should visit it too one day, especially during sunset when the reflection of the sun rays give the rugged landscape an interesting multi-colored appearance.

I would love to go to Mauritius one day, not just because of this place, but also because of its beautiful beaches and culture.

Thanks Steve (Grumpy)!
You are certainly right abourt our signs and the community is putting funds up to support new signage as a matter of urgency. We have councils, traders, wineries and all stakeholders engaging to change the profile and you will be pleased to know that Swan Valley Council have provided us with the criteria they used for the Swan.
Give us a couple of years and hopefully we'll match the signage of the Swan Valley, the leaders in signage throughout the country. Thanks for the prompt!!

EVEN when walking beach trails, you still have to cross the river mouth. This is often the most dangerous area to cross the river when the tide is high as bullsharks and crocs come into the "boca" or mouth of the river to feed.

While this article does address some of the dangers, Park Rangers always recommend traveling with an experienced guide who knows the area well. Dangers include not only animals, but some plants, if touched, can cause ichy rashes and other reactions.

The article seems to indicate that it's best to walk from Carate or San Pedrillo, but I will disagree, as the San Pedrillo trail to Sirena Biological Station is permanently closed.

There is a lot of misinformation on the internet about Corcovado, as many things continue to change in this wilderness. Please double check all of your facts when making your plans.

Thank you for writing this ... Charles needs all the assistance he can get!!

He is such a humble guy & I'd known him for a while before suggesting this could be a way out of poverty for him.

He's doing well, tourists are enjoying the tours which he's now added to, to offer a full day or a weekend trip. Getting a lot of references from happy clients.

What he wants to do is a) Gain a steady stream of clients to b) Pay for an education (an online qualification via the UK) and start c) Training up other youngsters in Nima to work with him

Very happy to have found this write up - Charles Sablah (with H) will be too! Thanks again!
