Of course, sometimes your travel itinerary isn’t finalised until the last minute, or you’re not necessarily aware of which show you would like to see.
If you visit Times Square, then the answer is staring you in the face. The TKTS Discount Booth is located in Times Square located “under the red steps” In Father Duffy Square on Broadway and 47th Street.
Basically, the booth sells unsold tickets to shows, usually at discount prices, with some tickets being half price. If you wish to see one of the blockbusters that is normally sold out, then you may have to pay up to full price. The catch is, that you buy the tickets on the same day that you wish to see the show, with the exception of matinees, that are sold the day previously.
The booth doesn’t open until late afternoon, so you have to be quick if you wish to catch one of the more popular shows. Tickets are sold until the latest curtain time.
There are actually three TKTS Booths in New York, and apart from Times Square they are located in Downtown Brooklyn at1 MetroTech Center at the corner of Jay Street and Myrtle Avenue Promenade, and also at South Street Seaport at the corner of Front and John Streets, near the rear of the Resnick/ Prudential Building at 199 Water Street.
Due to the popularity of the Times Square booth, it is often easier to get tickets at either of the other two booths.
