A packet of fun for Chinese New Year

Singapore is a multicultural hotpot of different ethnic peoples, customs and religions and, fortunately, Singapore seems to cater for them all.

By far and away the biggest celebration in Singapore is Chinese New Year, and it is one of the few times when Singaporeans forget about business and focus their attention on enjoyment and fun.

This year, Chinese New Year in Singapore promises to be bigger than ever so Singapore will be a great place to be to enjoy the occasion and participate in this most important of festivals.

The term “Hong Bao”, meaning red packet, is a monetary gift to symbolise good luck during Chinese New Year. Since 1986, the River Hongbao has been an annual Chinese New Year event that celebrates Chinese culture and traditions, with this year’s festivities being celebrated at The Float @ Marina Bay.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the River Hongbao 2011 will also feature a special showcase by the city of Nanjing, the host city for the next Youth Olympic Games. Catch performances by the people of Nanjing, as well as other Chinese cities, and experience speciality food and handicrafts along the two food streets.

Other highlights not to be missed include concerts by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, a local short film showcase, as well as many photo opportunities against the dazzling backdrop of the Marina Bay area.

So, if you just happen to be passing through Singapore, make your way down to The Float @ Marina Bay this Chinese New Year and share in the joy and festivities as you welcome the Year of the Rabbit with a bang.
